Arles celebrated in 2011 the 30th anniversary of the entry of eight of its monuments in UNESCO World Heritage List.
Arles is a town of art and history. The Roman and Romanesque Monuments of Arles and 65 acres of downtown are on the World Heritage List of UNESCO since 1981. So in 2007, archaeological excavations carried out underwater in the Rhone led to the discovery of major Roman sculptures, including a realistic marble bust of Julius Caesar and a Neptune statue of the third century.
